Logic and Philosophy of Science

The Department of Logic and Philosophy of Science brings together faculty and students interested in a wide range of topics including: General Philosophy of Science; Philosophy of Physics, Biology, Linguistics, and Social Science; Logic; Foundations and Philosophy of Mathematics and Logic; and Philosophy of Mathematics in Application.

LPS enjoys strong cooperative relations with UCI's Department of Philosophy; in particular, the two units jointly administer a single graduate program leading to the Ph.D. in Philosophy. LPS also has strong connections with several science departments, including mathematics, physics, biology, computer science, economics and mathematical behavioral sciences.

Visiting Scholar's Program:

The Department of Logic and Philosophy of Science invites applications for a visiting scholar or visiting professor depending on the qualifications of the applicant. This research position provides a small stipend intended to cover travel and housing costs while in residence, allowing new or established faculty to visit UC Irvine for periods of up to nine months. The stipend award amount will depend on the length of the visit and the availability of funds. Responsibilities involve interacting with both faculty and graduate students on current research projects. AOS and AOC are open.
